Every Child Matters
Karers 4 Kidz began in October 2000 at a coffee morning in Ickenham. Katrina & Chris Bijowski, the parents of a daughter with cerebral palsy, invited other parents to their home to discuss their concerns about the local authority’s proposal to re-structure the respite care service for children.
After successfully urging the Council to revise their plans, a small group of parents continued to meet regularly. They became a source of inspiration and information for each other. With children of greatly varying ages and abilities, parents are able to share experiences and help those who are new to the system.
Katrina continued to work voluntarily with Parent-Teacher Associations and other organisations to influence change and make a difference.
Sadly, Katrina passed away in late 2011, after a tireless battle against cancer. Her vision lives on through friends and family, who continue to develop her ideas and provide the clubs and other facilities initiated by her.
